This was quite a rare find! While hiking through the desert recently, I came across an abandoned mine at the mouth of a ravine. Nothing about the mine seemed special as I made my way towards it. Once I removed the tumbleweeds that had accumulated in the entrance, I noticed an immediate two-way split with a tunnel going off to the left and a tunnel going off to the right. As I sat there in the entrance pondering which branch to take first, I was unaware of a very unusual feature of this mine that was hidden in plain sight. I only discovered this feature after I explored the right-hand tunnel and was making my way back towards the entrance to explore the left-hand tunnel. It definitely is an oddity that isn’t seen often in these abandoned mines. I’m sure you’ll agree! * NOTE: This video was shot in stunning 4K resolution! If your viewing device can handle it, be sure to watch this video in 4K to experience cinematic supremacy! * #ExploringAbandonedMines #AbandonedMines #MineExploring #UndergroundExploration

We pick up creepy sounds while exploring the abandoned Horton Mine in Nevada. Did we capture haunted sounds from the spirit world? Did we pick up some EVPs? I am not sure what the sounds are... You can judge for yourself. But it's definitely a very creepy mine tunnel to explore. We are not ghost adventures, and we are no paranormal investigators. We are just explorers who enjoy exploring abandoned places. We also enjoy exploring possible haunted abandoned places. Often called one of the most haunted places in the US, the Horton Mine is definitely a creepy place to explore. The entire mine looks like it could have been straight out of a horror movie. Exploring Abandoned Mines has explored this mine twice, and both times he claims to have experienced and filmed possible paranormal encounters with ghosts. Again, we are not ghost hunters or looking for paranormal activity, but we did think what we heard later was very interesting. Let us know if you see or hear anything out of the ordinary. If there is enough interest, we may conduct a follow up visit and video. #Abandoned #Exploring #ExploreWithUs

Blue jeans were created by Levi Strauss in 1873 for miners and originally known as 'waist overalls' or 'overalls.' These days, original Levi's are extremely desired by denim collectors and sometimes found in abandoned mines. I've been searching for Levi's up at Cerro Gordo for a long time, and finally found some here! Full video of the find here: 🤍
This week I'm headed back down the Union Mine here at Cerro Gordo to the 700 ft level. That is where the only water source for the whole town is. The pump stopped working again about 6 months ago and I had to wait out the cold weather to go back down. But now, I need water for more than just cleaning up. I need it to make the concrete for the American Hotel. So this week, I headed back down to fix the pump...and do a few hours of exploring. This might be my favorite level of the Union Mine and I was surprised how much there was to explore. Thanks so much for following along and subscribing! It means a lot to me! IMPORTANT NOTE: The Science Channel aired an episode of their TV show "Strange Evidence" which featured my Horton Mine video footage! The episode was titled "The Devil's Mutant" and aired in Season 3 during June 2019. Check it out! The footage was analyzed by experts in various scientific fields. For those of you who don’t believe in the footage, you will be disappointed with their consensus. LOL UPDATE APRIL 2021: This video now has over 6 million views as of April 23, 2021. My last view report was in February of last year when this video barely had 5 million views. Thank you all so very much for your continued interest and support of this video and my work. I especially want to extend a big thank you to you-know-who for making most of this phenomenal growth possible over the years. You’ve been a big help as a hater in extending the longevity of this video and its appeal. Thanks, man – you’re the best! Keep up the outstanding work! UPDATE FEBRUARY 2020: This video now has 5.2 million views as of February 19, 2020. My last view report was April of 2019 when this video only had 4.1 million views. That’s an increase of 1.1 million views in less than ten months! You all are the best! Thank you so much! This channel, however, is NOT about paranormal activity or ghost-hunting. Never has been and never will be. With over 540 videos on my channel, only about 1 percent deal with "paranormal" activity. You'll have to look elsewhere for your ghostly thrills. Regardless, thank you for your passionate interest and support of this video whether negative or positive. I know ThruNite appreciates all the support, and so do I. Disturbing, strange sounds. That’s exactly what I caught on video while filming and documenting the abandoned Waldeck Mine using the ThruNite TN12 flashlight. The Waldeck Mine is an abandoned gold mine located deep in a forested canyon in the high country. I went there on a stormy night in order to document the mine while reviewing and demonstrating ThruNite's excellent TN12 handheld flashlight. The abandoned mine itself is over 150 years old and still has a lot of awesome yet dangerous timbering in its furthest reaches. There are upper levels in the Waldeck Mine, but I only explored and documented the main haulage tunnel. As mentioned in the video, the ThruNite TN12 flashlight I used exclusively for this demo and review has five light levels. Here are the lumens each light level puts out: FIREFLY MODE: 0.4 lumens LOW MODE: 18 lumens MEDIUM MODE: 175 lumens HIGH MODE: 435 lumens TURBO MODE: 1100 lumens The flashlight runs off of a 3400 mAh 18650 battery. The mining camp you see at the start of this video is a more recent operation than the ravaged town of Engilchek seen in the first video. A Chinese company had a go at mining here after the dissolution of the Soviet Union… However, as you can see, they were unable to make a success of mining at Engilchek and abandoned their efforts as well. That is not entirely surprising as it is difficult to get here and this is an environment of extremes. As just one example of this: the cheap, plastic windows of that Chinese crane that were rendered opaque after being cooked by the ultraviolet rays from the sun at this high elevation. I can anticipate the comments in reaction to whatever I encountered underground (which is why I was reluctant to post this video in the first place), so let me be clear: I am not suggesting that I encountered a ghost or anything supernatural as I am quite skeptical about such things. What I am saying is that whatever I encountered creeped me out a little and I still can’t figure out what it was... I’d love to hear an explanation for that howl. My interest in this is to solve a puzzle. So, I’ll let the experts figure out what it likely was. I just happened to be the guy that brought back the video. If I wanted to produce a fake ghost video with the intent to go viral, I would have done the following: I would have released this around Halloween to capitalize on the general interest in all things spooky at that time, I would have dubbed in much louder and more clearly creepy audio, I would have reacted more in the video to ramp up the melodrama, I would have included some sort of visual effect in the video as well, I would use a more clickbait-oriented title and thumbnail referencing “creepy, unexplained, mysterious sounds” and other such attractants, I would not offer the raw file to anyone interested in scrutinizing it since that would expose any shenanigans… Do you see what I’m saying? I’m not very technologically sophisticated, but I know it is possible to separate out and to enhance background audio. If anyone knows how to do that, I’d love to hear an enhanced version of that howl. The EVP people do that all of the time… Creepy encounters aside, I am sorry that the adit in this video was caved because it evidently was quite large considering the size of the rail, the size of the waste rock pile outside, the size of the portal, etc. So, presumably, the adit ran back into some substantial workings. These can be quite interesting and impressive. Also, we’re more likely to discover tools and other such artifacts closer to where they were actually working the ore deposits. I didn’t see any signs that the Chinese had been mining underground at this or any of the other adits. So, perhaps they were trying to work the waste rock and tailings outside? The presence of the crane would support this as it certainly would not have been used underground. Of course, the crane could also have been used for constructing the mining camp. So, perhaps the Chinese never actually got around to mining and abandoned the project after building (or mostly building) the camp? The next adit I explored at Engilchek (the third and final video in this series) is without controversy and is, I believe, the most interesting in terms of artifacts and underground workings. It was also very different than the adit in this video. It’s strange to me how very different the adits were despite being in such close proximity. * All of these videos are uploaded in HD, so adjust those settings to ramp up the quality! I thought the interesting part about this video was going to be that this abandoned mine had been dug open, but instead, it was how dangerous it was... Having been invited into many of the other gold mines in the area that intersect that exact same serpentine vein that you see in this mine, I can tell you that every one of those mines is caved right where they hit that same vein. So, it really is bad news. This video footage is a few years old and now having worked as an underground gold miner in rock with a lot of serpentine, I can tell you that that section in the video is even worse than we appreciated at the time. With the oxygen and dry air hitting many parts of this mine after it had been left undisturbed for so long, stuff was coming down all over the place. I didn’t fully understand the power of that until we opened up new areas in our gold mine that had been blocked off for decades and things immediately began to come apart with the dry air and oxygen. The dry air shrinks support timbers and the fresh air sends the process of them rotting into overdrive. Dry air also shrinks mud that may have been acting as a sort of glue or at least helping to fill a void. When that pressure is reduced from the mud drying out and shrinking, things can shift and cave. The same holds true for rock that is suddenly exposed to different humidity levels or oxidation. Those can seem like subtle changes, but, sometimes, the forces that are holding large sections of rock together are pretty subtle. A recently dewatered mine presents similar dangers. Aside from the factors mentioned above, the pressure from the water acts as an agent holding things together. When that is disturbed, the likelihood of things caving increases – sometimes dramatically… * You can see the full TVR Exploring playlist of abandoned mines here: 🤍 You can see the gear that I use for mine exploring here: 🤍 and here: 🤍 Several kind viewers have asked about donating to help cover some of the many expenses associated with exploring these abandoned mines. These journeys allow a feeling of connection to a time when the world was a very different place. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hike back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Some of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver and other minerals. A&FP moves just a bit slower. We discuss why the miners chose these sites and we try to point out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men loose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day. Dangers? Oh yes, there are allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders and snakes all find there home in abandoned mines, shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooding and collapsing rock! We take abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly” and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob”, “Quackers” and “Bobbie” are sure to brighten your day with there comments and silly antics. I decided to push the limits a bit here and go down the main mine shaft at Cerro Gordo overnight. The way the mine works, I had to take the cage down and get picked up the next day, so there was no way out. If the idea itself wasn't crazy enough, I made it even harder on myself by forgetting key pieces of equipment above ground, which I only realized hours into my time down there. I heard voices throughout the night and kept seeing flashes of light. I don't draw that much continued attention to that side of it in the video, because I don't like overplaying 'haunted' or 'creepy' side of it. I think that can be overplayed easily and not what I want the channel to stand on. But hope you enjoy my experience down there! You can follow my journey on Instagram: 🤍 I moved to Cerro Gordo in March 2020 because of the pandemic and to relieve our longtime caretaker so he could be back home. I've been here ever since. There have been ups and downs, but I feel I am learning a lot and becoming a better person. Follow along on this channel for more from the town. I have no plans to leave and will continue making videos to update the progress on all the projects! The town was originally established in 1865 and by 1869 they were pulling 340 tons of bullion out of the mountain for Los Angeles. The silver from Cerro Gordo was responsible for building Los Angeles. The prosperity of Cerro Gordo demanded a larger port city and pushed LA to develop quickly. The Los Angeles News once wrote: “What Los Angeles is, is mainly due to it. It is the silver cord that binds our present existence. Should it be uncomfortably severed, we would inevitably collapse.” In total, there has been over $17,000,000 of minerals pulled from Cerro Gordo. Adjusted for inflation, that number is close to $500,000,000. It’s been a wild ride so far owning a ‘ghost town’ and we’re having a lot of fun figuring out what to do with it. Subscribe by email to get one email per month on most recent renovations, artifact finds, cave explorations, ghosts?, and more... 🤍 The type of things that might lead you here are interests in ghost towns, abandoned mining towns, abandoned cities, California history, the zombie apocalypse, ghost stories, scary stories, nature, death valley, lone pine CA, mines, exploring, overnight challenges, exploration, urban exploration and yes theory. #CerroGordo #GhostTownLiving #Abandoned #Offthegrid
Today we take a look at the famous car cave mine, discovered by some explorers in North Wales a few years ago. I met up with fellow YouTuber Ally Law and his mate Fin and armed with a expensive camera and a childrens inflatable boat, off we went. This was an old state mine that was abandoned many years ago and then sometime in the 1970s or maybe into the 80s was used to dump unwanted material shuck included metal, plastic, televisions, fridges and old cars. I had seen several really good photos of this place so was looking forward to seeing it with my own eyes. The cavern itself is huge and takes a bit of effort to get to the bottom of. Sadly I lost a load of footage from the into and the way in which is why it’s not up to the usual standard. Also killed a video light straight away so it was not a great start but we managed. Don’t forget to subscribe for more videos and why not check out Ally’s channel, search “Ally Laws Life” on here for his latest content. This week, I take on a mine exploration I've been planning for nearly a year - the Newtown Mine. This part of the mine is only accessible by a 300 ft vertical shaft and hasn't been explored in a century. I've never been one for heights so the thought of lowering myself down a rope 300 ft prevented me from exploring this sooner. I finally decided to face my fears and headed down this week! It was the scariest exploration I've done to date, but did leave me much more comfortable for future adventures. There are TONS of great videos coming up. A lot has been happening around Cerro Gordo recently, so if you aren't already, I hope you'll subscribe to the channel! It's free and that way you can see all the progress going on up here. Exploring abandoned mine sites is so much fun. his is a new claim to me, but a very old mine. They mined gold and silver from this site, which includes 4 adits and one shaft (That we know of!) I managed to take a good sample of the gold bearing ore (silver too) and processed it finding both native silver and free miller gold. We had an amazing day prospecting and were very happy with what we found in this gold and silver mine. I've wanted to make pure silver as long as I've owned an abandoned silver mine. This past week, I found a book published in 1886 that walked through all the different steps. It was raining, so what better thing to do than read up and try to make the first batch of Cerro Gordo silver in a VERY long time. I went back in the mines, collected galena, and set off to take it all the way down to silver, the way they did it back in the 1800s. Turns out, making silver isn't the easiest thing, but it did bring me a LOT of appreciation for all the miners, smelters, and assayers who called this town home back in the 1800s. Special thanks to Matt P, a volunteer who read this book too and helped make this happen! The base bullion bar is given away, but enter to win a Cerro Gordo ring! Made of pure Cerro Gordo silver! The # 5 portal of the Hope Ruth was an old mine that was refurbished in the 80s to handle ore from the nearby Sylvana mine near Sandon BC. I Climb from the 4,000 level of the Hope Ruth Mine, 625 feet though a ton of old workings, drifts and machines abandoned 50 years ago and run into modern miners working at the Silvana Mine who thought I was a ghost! In this video, I take a hike along an abandoned mining tramway near Cerro Gordo! One of my favorite things in the world is aerial tramways. I love the history of them, the mystery of them. It's been very cold and snowy in town recently, which has halted progress on many things, but I really enjoyed this reason to get out there and hike. We travel into a high altitude mine called the Ruth Vermont with Sharon's brother in law David. After a long hike we explore a large Silver mine with some of the most impressive Galena and Quartz showings I have ever seen. The mine is filled with artifacts including a self unloading Granby car and more dynamite than we have ever seem in a mine! One of many cases of dynamite we found left in an abandoned mine after the big spike in Silver prices collapsed in 1981. Most of the mines were operated by leasers who jumped in to make a quick buck then left everything behind when the price fell. If you find dynamite in or around abandoned mines and you think it may be a hazard you should report it to the mines inspector. In Southern BC Jerrold Jewsbury can be reached 🤍 250-420-6356. Also if there is ever an emergency in a mine he should be contacted. Even though they have never responded to an incident involving mine explorers there is a team of mine rescuers that are there to help if needed. Don't bother to call 911. They would call search and rescue who are not allowed to go underground so they would be of no use. This is a fast paced and exciting Mine Exploration Channel. How old is old? 120 years? That’s how old the abandoned Valdez Mine is! An abandoned mine that old is definitely worth exploring and documenting, so I got together with Jeff from 🤍otgexploring and hiked up a steep mining road to visit the Valdez Mine. Silver and gold were mined there back in 1903 and from 1911 to 1913 making the Valdez Mine a pretty decent producer for its time! Inside the mine we found multiple levels as well as multiple access points. * NOTE: If your viewing device can handle it, be sure to watch this video in stunning 4K resolution! Suddenly a collapse occurs blocking the only exit and trapping Frank in the mine. This was a close call and is the scariest thing that has ever happened in 8 years of exploring abandoned mines!
